A steam locomotive will cross the Ribblehead Viaduct this Saturday
A Carnforth-based steam locomotive will return to main line steam and will be in Carlisle and Blackburn on Saturday 21 May 2022.
The locomotive hauls the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.
The railtour leaves London Euston behind a electric locomotive around 07:08.
The railtour will then head to Carlisle, where it will make stops at Milton Keynes Central (07.43am), Rugby (08.25am), Nuneaton (08.42am), Crewe (09.31am) and Preston (10.14am) before arriving at Carnforth North Junction at 10.42am .
Here the steam locomotive will be added to the front of the train which will depart with the locomotive at 11.26am, passing through Oxenholme (11.41am) and Penrith (12.20pm), it will go non-stop to Carlisle, arriving at 12.42pm.
After approximately one hour in Carlisle, the steam locomotive will leave Carlisle at 2.22pm bound for London Euston. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (2:45pm) and stop for water at Appleby (3:05pm).
Continuing on the Settle and Carlisle line, the locomotive will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approximately 3:55 p.m., continuing to Settle, passing through Settle Junction (4:06 p.m.) where it will proceed to Hellifield, for a water stop, at 4:14 p.m. .
From here the steam train will pass through Clitheroe (5.01pm) and Blackburn (5.26pm) before arriving in Preston at 5.54pm.
In Preston, the the steam locomotive is removed from the trainand an electric locomotive will take the same route back to London Euston, calling at Crewe (7.29pm), Nuneaton (8.27pm), Rugby (8.49pm), Milton Keynes Central (9.20pm) and Watford Junction at 10.03pm.
The train tour will return to its final destination of London Euston at 10.29pm.
