Passengers will not be able to board the Charlotte’s light rail and tram lines next weekend as the Charlotte area transit system temporarily closes both services for preventative maintenance.

Work will begin on Saturday, October 15 and will allow crews to make necessary improvements to the rail system, including track work and repairs to level crossings, CATS said in a news release Friday. The Blue Line is CATS’ light rail transit system. Its streetcar is the Gold Line.

“Regular track maintenance is essential to preserve the CATS rail system for years to come,” the press release reads.

All train lines will open at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 17.

During the service break, CATS will provide LYNX Connector and CityLYNX Connector buses at all light rail and streetcar stops. Each station will have signage to direct users to the nearest bus stop.

Riders can find more information about rail suspension at The CATS website.
