Dapol launch model of the 7820 Dinmore Manor steam locomotive

Dapol Model Company has launched a limited OO gauge edition of GWR Manor Class 4-6-0 No. 7820 Dinmore Manor.

The model will be available in three versions: DCC compatible, with DCC already installed and with sound. The sounds were recorded on the 7820 preserved in full size Dinmore Manor to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway to provide a truly authentic reproduction.

To ensure the model is as accurate and authentic as possible, many original GA drawings were used when developing the model. It benefits from many of the features used in Dapol’s Mogul, including a slide-in boiler circuit board for tool-less DCC mounting and a sugar cube-shaped speaker enclosure for models with sound. A conductive pull-up bar provides pickup for the soft wheels and connections for the treble bass speaker.

All the usual Dapol refinements are incorporated, including a die-cast offset chassis, a detailed cab interior with screw-in reverse and a suspended front pony that runs on a cam that lets it easily negotiate R2 curves.

A NEXT-18 DCC decoder can be installed without the need for tools, while a loudspeaker can be connected without soldering. The PCB slides through the smokehouse door and connects directly to the locomotive’s motherboard.

Electrical connections molded inside the close-coupled push-fit coupling incorporated in the tender to the locomotive drawbar eliminate the need for hard-wired outlets and notoriously unreliable wiper-type connections. The locomotive and the tender are equipped with an electric sensor on all driving wheels and the tender.

The call for tenders provides for the installation of a bass-reflex loudspeaker. An audio frequency filter built into the locomotive’s main circuit board will ensure that each speaker reproduces sound in its ideal frequency range. On the sound models, a focus glow is synchronized with the sound.

For each model sold, Dapol will donate to Dinmore Manor Locomotive Limited and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway. Models can be ordered directly from Dapol and will also be on sale at the Swindon Festival of Steam on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September. They will not be available anywhere else.
