A delivery truck driver is hospitalized with serious injuries after the vehicle he was driving was hit by a passenger train at a level crossing in Ile-Perrot on Wednesday.

It is not known whether the 41-year-old driver was on the lanes before or after the level crossing barrier on Boulevard Perrot. N. got off as the train approached around 12:45 p.m., Sûreté du Québec sergeant. says Valerie Beauchamp.

The VIA Rail train hit the back of the car, she said. The driver, transported to a Montreal hospital, was the only passenger in the truck.

None of the 39 passengers or crew aboard VIA Rail train No. 35 were injured, VIA Rail said.

The scene was cleared in the afternoon and no further delays were expected, VIA Rail said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada announced that it was sending two investigators to the scene of the accident. Investigators, he said, will gather information and document the site to determine next steps.
