Meet growing light rail bandwidth demands with new antenna range from HUBER+SUHNER

Dedicated antennas optimized for light rail vehicles have been launched by HUBER+SUHNER, further expanding its offering to the transport sector.

As all segments of the transportation market seek to meet the growing demand for bandwidth, rail, light rail and road vehicles all have different requirements. The SENCITY® Tram rooftop antenna range has been developed to provide an all-in-one wireless solution and to meet the unique requirements of light rail vehicles such as trams and metros.

Range of SENCITY® Tram roof antennas

The three products in the new range – SENCITY® Tram, SENCITY® Tram MIMO and SENCITY® Tram MULTI – are multi-application rooftop antennas for Cellular, Wi-Fi, Tetra, UHF and GNSS, developed to more precisely meet the requirements of the tram and light rail segment.

“The higher data rates used on board for passengers and the integration of an increasing number of applications, such as video surveillance, have increased the bandwidth requirements of light rail operators,” said Michael Thiel, Product Manager Antennas at HUBER+SUHNER. “We have completed our offer to our customers by adding the specific segment of light rail antennas. They are matched products with optimum quality, performance, price and certification for the specific application using specialized antenna materials and constructions. For each transport application, we can now offer dedicated solutions.

SENCITY® Tram rooftop antennas provide up to nine radiating elements in a single compact package, offering support for 4×4 cellular, 4×4 Wi-Fi and dual-band GNSS. Tetra tapes can also be supported as a separate option.

The antennas benefit from the optimized RF performance and high quality manufacturing for which HUBER+SUHNER is well known in the industry. An added benefit comes from the simple and efficient one-hole mounting that allows up to nine radiators to be installed. Alternatively, multiple antennas can be installed next to each other for even further improved performance, with increased spacing and less interference for maximum MIMO throughput.

SENCITY® Tram rooftop antennas are globally certified for railway standards EN 50155, EN 45545-2, NFPA-130 and CE. Operators can rest assured that HUBER+SUHNER’s connectivity infrastructure can be deployed anywhere in the world.
