Ride behind the “Tornado” steam locomotive at Great Central Railway in 2022!

The Great Central Railway (GCR) has announced running days where visitors can ride behind the new London and North Eastern Railway designed Peppercorn A1 Class No.60163 “Tornado” steam locomotive.

“Tornado” was moved to the GCR recently after being pulled from mainline services after punctures were detected during a Fitness to Race (FTR) test.

On hire from the GCR, 60163 will appear for several days to haul a variety of trains including:

The Master Cutler

Taking place on Friday 7th and Friday 14th January, passengers enjoy a five-course meal and while traveling along the GCR behind ‘Tornado’, passing and stopping on the beautiful Swithland Viaduct with views over Charnwood Forest.

Running weekend

Working alongside local GCR fleet members, you can ride behind 60163 for three round trips at standard 2022 fares on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th January 2022.
