Sacramento light rail transit derails and stalls downtown traffic

A light rail train stalled traffic at a downtown Sacramento intersection on Friday after its wheels ran out of the way, authorities said.

the Light Rail Sacramento Regional Transit was blocking traffic on 8 and K streets after its wheels went off the track for an unknown reason, RT spokeswoman Jessica Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said no injuries were reported, but it was unclear if there were passengers on board when the train derailed. RT officials have set up a bus bridge in downtown Sacramento: the Blue Line from 13th Street to Arden Del Paso and the Gold Line from 13th Street to Sac Valley.

The Sacramento Police Department posted on social media that motorists should expect traffic delays in the area; they suggested finding alternate routes through the city center. It is not known when the intersection will be cleared.
