Steam locomotive 45596 Bahamas crosses the Peak District!
In this video, RailView captures LMS Jubilee Class No. 45596 Bahamas on The Jubilee Buxton Spa Express while celebrating Queens Platinum Jubilee Weekend after a remarkable 70 years.
To mark the unique occasion, the tour’s original name ‘The Buxton Spa Express’ has been changed to ‘The Jubilee Buxton Spa Express’ with a striking purple headboard and Union Jack flags next to each of the lamps in the Midland area .
The video begins with the Bahamas working the steep 1 in 100 grade of Edale Bank with the locomotive storming the bank with very little help from the class 47 diesel locomotive at the rear.
Next RailView travels to Buxton to check in the Bahamas from the beautiful spa town, but first we briefly see the Bahamas heading towards the sidings before being brought back by Class 47 into Buxton station .
After the shunt we see what was certainly the highlight of the day with the Bahamas climbing the 1 in 66 incline to Dove Holes from a standing start at the station and sounding absolutely fantastic as she does her loud noise on the steep incline, a real treat for all onlookers and marking one of the finest performances RailView has seen since the Jubilee, with the 47s at the back only beginning to help properly on the difficult climb after that the Bahamas have passed us!
For the final shot of the day, we see the Jubilee passing through Grindleford after making a stop at Hathersage as it flies through the station to end a remarkable day with this wonderful locomotive!
