Steam locomotive 61306 Mayflower will make a rare appearance on the Marston Vale Line en route to Chesterfield

A special rail tour, carried by LNER B1 No 61306 Mayflower, will depart from Ealing Broadway in June, bound for Chesterfield and make a rare journey on the Marston Vale Line.

On Thursday June 9, Mayflower will depart Ealing Broadway and travel up the West Coast Main Line before taking the Marston Vale Line to Bedford, stopping at Bletchley and Ridgmount to pick up passengers.

Mayflower will then travel up the Midland Main Line to reach Derbyshire where passengers will have the opportunity to take part in various excursions in the Peak District.

Tickets for this trip range from £109 for Premium Standard to Pullman Style Dining, which will cost £274 per person.

David Buck, President of Steam Dreams and owner of the Mayflower steam locomotive, said: “We are delighted that our journey coincides with the 175 specialand birthday parties. Mayflower has not traveled this route in recent history, and experiencing the locomotive on this fine line will be a magnificent sight. Buck added “it is always very exciting to take a steam train on a new route and it is made even more relevant by the fact that steam travel was one of the main modes of transport 175 years ago. The interest and enthusiasm of passengers to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a steam train is wonderful.

Transport Team Leader (Rail) at the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership, Stephen Sleight, is delighted with the visit from Mayflower: “We are currently celebrating the 175and the anniversary year of the Line and are very happy to welcome a rare steam special.
