Steam Locomotive 9351 for touring the Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway has announced that the GWR-inspired Mogul No. 9351 will be visiting them for its upcoming Autumn Steam Gala.

9351, which was converted from a 2-6-2 tank engine to a 2-6-0 tender engine in 2004, visits courtesy of the West Somerset Railway.

9351 was previously number 5193 and last visited the Severn Valley Railway in 2005.

The original locomotive was built in 1934 and was initially stationed at Stourbridge Junction, a short walk from SVR HQ in Kidderminster.

Additionally, the Severn Valley Railway’s own Mogul, No. 7325, will also be on display at Kidderminster Station throughout the event.

9351 joins LMS Black 5 #45231 The Sherwood Forester previously announced at the event, which will also be 4930 Hagley Hall’s first gala appearance since completing its redesign.

7714, 43106, 75069, 2857, 1501 and No. 70 ‘Elizabeth II’ will join the visiting locomotives for the gala.

Two more locomotives, including one smaller than our readers might expect, will be announced soon.

Michael Dunn, Head of Commerce and Visitor Experience, said: “Our Spring Steam Gala saw record attendance with over 5,000 attendees, and we want to make sure our fall event is a must-attend event as well.

“We have all sorts of things planned, including a few more surprises. Something we are very excited about are our breakfast food trains and our pie and mash trains every day of the event.

“We will be running freight trains and there will be a narrow gauge railway at The Engine House, Highley, and we are running an ambitious timetable which starts at 8am and ends at midnight on Friday and Saturday.”

Tickets are now available on the SVR website: svr.co.uk.
