The iconic steam locomotive returns to the Strasbourg railway line

An iconic locomotive is parked on the Strasbourg railway line for the summer season.The Norfolk & Western Railway Class J 611 locomotive is known as a powerhouse of steam, technology and near mechanical perfection.The train is the sole survivor of 14 classes of art deco style J Steam Locomotives. It rolled out of Roanoke in 1950. “It was actually at the very end of the steam age, and it’s really considered some kind of marvel of engineering and of technology at this time. It’s streamlined. It kind of has that art deco look, and it’s just a really neat machine. It works very efficiently, and it’s big,” Steve Barrall said. The arrival of N&W No. 611 this month marks only the second time the locomotive has been operating in Pennsylvania. The locomotive last visited Strasbourg in 2019.
